Japan, S. Korea witness incidents of cars rammed into pedestrians
In central Tokyo, one person was killed and 10 others injured when a car rammed into pedestrians. An 80-year-old man died in the incident, which police are investigating as a hit-and-run involving a stolen vehicle. Authorities are questioning a suspect believed to have been driving the car.
Police said the vehicle ran a red light at a crosswalk, mounted the sidewalk, and collided with a guardrail in a loud crash. The driver reportedly fled the scene on foot following the collision.
Meanwhile, on an island off South Korea’s Jeju province, three people were killed and 10 others injured after a van struck pedestrians and crashed into a signpost. A woman in the vehicle and two pedestrians were pronounced dead after being airlifted to a nearby hospital. The driver and nine others sustained minor injuries.
